DJ (R)Con

Rob “DJ (R)Con” Ruiz has 8 years of experience in the DJ world and approximately 10 years of experience producing and writing music. Since the age of 20, Rob has been studying the skills of scratching and blending in the art of turntablism. “It’s such a fun and unique way of adding a creative flare of sound to music,” says Rob. “You can take any sound, any rhythm, and put your own unique twist on it and use it in a way that it had not been originally intended.”

Rob graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) with a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations/Advertising, but with a special interest in Music Technology. While attending classes at UNO, Rob played a huge part in the growth of the recording studio and the music technology department at UNO’s College of Communications and Fine Arts. He helped assemble the studio, produced marketing materials to promote the department, and also guest taught a few classes.  He took every class the department had to offer. “The program they have built up there is amazing. The amount of knowledge that can be obtained between the instructors and the other dedicated students in the areas of recording, sound manipulation, and digital synthesis is unmatched in the metro area,” says Rob. “They are doing things up there with computers and sound that you can’t even imagine.”

Rob has DJed at most of the big dance clubs and bars in Omaha including Naughty Lounge, Citrus Lounge, Lava Jays, Club Irie, Billy Frogg’s, and many more. He’s also the official DJ for the S.K.Y. Streetball Syndicate (an international street basketball organization dedicated promoting education and athleticism to young people around the world) who he has toured with locally and overseas. He’s DJed at the Omaha Entertainment Awards for Breathless when she won the Best Hip-hop artist award in 2008. He is Vice President of Sparc Entertainment (A coalition of working DJs in Omaha) and he’s also an official member of the Crowd Rocka DJs (an elite group of Omaha’s best DJs started by DJ Mista Soull).
